The Birding Festival

Each year during the winter, the city holds the "Birding Festival", and becomes a birders paradise. The Birding Festival promotes birdwatching both nationally and internationally, providing visitors the chance to admire awesome species that can only be found in this area. Excellent places to go birdwatching include the Balcon de Moctezuma area, Canyon del Novillo, Canyon de Altas Cumbres, and the Canyon de la Peregrina. The latter is a much-liked place and features a creek that attracts a great variety of birds. Among the species you can view here, the endemic Red-headed Parakeet and the Great-billed red-collared stand out as two of the best.
